Establishing an online shop

Up-to-date information on establishing an online shop, a website, specifying prices, specific information requirements towards consumers, right of withdrawal etc.

Introductory information

The following sections on the subject of ‘online shops’ will look at both the general rules and the statutory provisions that must be observed by online shop operators when selling to end consumers.

In Austria, the difference is that the Fern- und Auswärtsgeschäfte-Gesetz (Distance and Outward Transactions Act) and the Konsumentenschutzgesetz (Consumer Protection Act) are applicable in the case of customers who are consumers. This is known as B2C commerce.

Caution

In general, these rules also apply to entrepreneurs from EU Member States in Austria.

Please note

If the business carried on requires authorisation under commercial law, a corresponding online shop also requires such a licence to trade. If the activity carried on does not require its own licence to trade, the online shop will not require one either.
