Information for newcomers
Service contracts (also: employment contracts) between an employer and an employee need not, in principle, follow a particular form. They can be concluded in writing, orally or 'implicitly' (provision of services).
When registering employees for social security, the form of employmentGerman text must be taken into account. There are different procedures to follow depending on the form of employment.
Citizens of the EU Member States and the EEA countries of Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein have free access to the Austrian labour market and therefore do not require authorisation to start work from the labour market authorities (they enjoy freedom of movement for workers).
It should be noted that foreign workers from third countries can only be employed (e.g. in an employment relationship, employee-like relationship or under a training contract) in Austria under certain conditions.
